“This surgery gave me my life back!”

September 2021— Tennessee athlete Wanda Martin and her podiatrist Dr. Daniel Tucker were featured in First For Women Magazine’s September issue. Wanda discussed her journey to participate in the Memphis District Senior Olympics and experience undergoing the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction Procedure to treat her painful bunion deformity
Wanda lived with bunions for most of her life but eventually, the pain became so severe she could hardly walk. Nonsurgical treatments provided some temporary relief, but she knew she needed to find a solution to the problem.

After researching her options, she learned that the traditional treatment was a 2D osteotomy procedure where doctors shave down the protruding bone in the big toe and push it over. This option would require that she stay off her feet for up to eight weeks and would not address the root cause of why the bone was drifting out of place. Unsatisfied with these results, she looked further.
“I found out that there is a new out-patient procedure covered by insurance called Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction,” said Wanda. “Remarkably, I could get back on my feet in a walking boot in just two weeks!” 1

Wanda found Dr. Daniel Tucker of the Vascular and Vein Institute of the South, a podiatrist in the Memphis area who performed the procedure. She met with him and scheduled her procedure after being encouraged by her office visit.

Wanda was pleased to not have any significant pain after surgery. Within six weeks she was back in her tennis shoes and resuming her volunteer activities she participated in before surgery. She is competing in the Senior Olympics this Fall and is eager to have Lapiplasty® performed on her other foot this winter.
