Life Changing Foot Surgery Helps Heal Southport Woman

March 2, 2020 – In an interview with Spectrum News in Coastal North Carolina, Dr. Joseph Kibler at Instride Brunswick Foot & Ankle Surgery in Supply, North Carolina said the Lapiplasty® Procedure “uses titanium plates to re-stabilize and secure the unstable joint in the middle of your foot” unlike a traditional bunionectomy which “shaves the joint down.”

He shares “The way that we solidly fix the bone [in the Lapiplasty ® 3D Bunion Correction] allows me to feel confident and get my patients back walking [in a walking boot],” said Kibler. “That’s important, especially for some of my older patients who have a tough time staying off their foot for two months.”

His patient, Vicki, was in “excruciating pain” from her bunions but didn’t want a traditional bunionectomy when it was proposed to her by a different podiatrist. “They were going to cut the bone, just for looks. They just wanted to shave that bunion off.” She was told the traditional bunionectomy recovery time would have been “six to eight weeks to walk without assistance and a seven-month total recovery time.” As a healthcare professional, that was time Vicki didn’t have.

After Dr. Kibler performed the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction Vicki was “back walking in a protective boot in a week.” Dr. Kibler explains that the “retainment rate of traditional bunionectomy procedures was 70%1 while with the Lapiplasty® Procedure 97% of patients maintained their 3D correction.”2

Four months later, Vicki is walking and driving with ease. Vicki is pleased with the outcome from the Lapiplasty® Procedure. “I’m not in pain” she relates and plans to get her other foot done in October.
