May 19, 2021—In a sponsored segment with The Doctors Dr. JP McAleer and his patient, April discussed how Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction® has allowed April and other patients to return to active lifestyles without pain caused by bunions.

“I have had bunions for as long as I can remember,” recalls April. “The pain started very slowly and then my feet hurt so bad, I had trouble walking. I knew something had to be done.”

Dr. McAleer explained that bunions are a complex deformity caused by an unstable joint in the mid-foot that allows the bones to drift out of alignment. He explained that the Lapiplasty® Procedure differs from traditional bunion removal surgery because rather than shaving off the protruding bone on the side of the toe, it involves securing the bones in the foot in their correct positions.

April was excited to start running 10k races only five months after the procedure. In the four years since her surgery, she has been able to work on her farm and run marathons without the debilitating foot pain she once experienced. Her advice to others living with bunions is to do research and to take care of the problem as soon as possible so they can get back to the lifestyles they enjoy.
