Lace up your sneakers! Annual Wolfson Children’s Challenge race to come back Saturday

January 20, 2023 – Paul Wilson, a Jacksonville real-estate agent, recently spoke with Action News Jax to discuss his experience with painful bunions and the procedure that allowed him to return to the Wolfson Children’s Challenge, an ultramarathon that he established 15 years ago.

The Wolfson Children’s Challenge was created by Paul after his son underwent life-saving treatment at Wolfson Children’s Hospital shortly after his birth. It was an event that he participated in religiously until a bunion deformity forced him to take a step back.

“That was really hard,” Paul said. “I feel like it did cause some depression for me. It was very hard to see that because we used to run every year, and then I was standing on the sidelines not able to run.”

Since Paul underwent Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction® procedure in 2019, he hasn’t had any bunion-related pain or problems in his foot. “I’m just so grateful that there are options out there to help us.”

With the Wolfson Children’s Challenge approaching, Paul plans to run the challenge’s original 55-mile distance and wants to raise his own additional $55,000. The money raised from the Wolfson Children’s Challenge helps fund patient treatments.

Lapiplasty® is a surgical procedure. This experience is unique and specific to this patient only. Individual results vary, there are risks, and recovery takes time. Risks include infection, pain, implant loosening and loss of correction with improper bone healing. For more information on benefits, risks and recovery, visit Lapiplasty.com.
