Mohammed Athar, MD
Dr. Mohammad Athar is a board eligible orthopedic surgeon who is dual fellowship trained in hip and knee reconstruction, with emphasis on total hip and total knee replacement, and foot and ankle surgery. He is available to see patients at all Genesis Orthopaedic and Spine locations in New Jersey. He is involved in peer reviewed research with a special interest in total ankle replacement. He has presented in at conferences at the national level in the US and Canada. He is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
Dr. Athar treats most conditions involving hips, knee, ankles, and feet. This includes the surgical treatment of hip arthritis, knee arthritis, meniscal tears, ankle arthritis, cartilage injuries...
Dr. Athar completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He then completed medical school at University College Cork in Ireland. He completed residency training with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in affiliation with the University of Toronto. He then completed two fellowships at the University of Toronto in hip and knee reconstruction, followed by foot and ankle surgery.
Dr. Athar also has extensive experience working with workers compensation cases, at risk populations, and with college / university teams. He is certified for navigation/robotics assisted hip and knee replacements. He is also trained in patient specific ankle replacement, minimally invasive foot surgery, and the use of newer cartilage replacement techniques.
