Dr. Beights received a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a varsity cross country and track athlete at Princeton University. Originally from south Florida, his undergraduate research took him back to the Everglades to explore resource selection habits of the tiny population of Florida Panthers residing there.

He continued his research in animal behavior at Rutgers University in Newark while completing post-baccalaureate pre-medical work.
