Damien Richardson, MD

Dr. Damien Richardson is an orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in Foot and Ankle surgery. A native to California, he was born in Los Angeles, grew up in San Bernardino, and spent his high school years in Fresno. The majority of his life has involved team sports. Soccer was his original childhood passion, setting the stage to become a three-year letter winner in high school participating in football, basketball, and track. He accepted a scholarship to play division one football for the Arizona State University (ASU) Sun Devils where he majored in Bio-engineering, with an emphasis in mechanical engineering, while also fulfilling his pre-medicine requirements. g in both the Rose Bowl and Sun Bowl before being drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the 1998 NFL draft. His 7-year NFL career included a National Football Conference championship and a trip to Super Bowl XXXVIII. Dr. Richardson truly understands the value of hard work, loyalty, and teamwork and he brings that experience to his patients to make shared decisions regarding care. He respects the role that our clinical, administrative, and ancillary services play in maximizing each patient’s individual experience and outcome.

Dr. Richardson’s medical journey officially began at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) medical school. UCSF set the foundation for excellence in patient care that respects diversity and encompasses the entire patient. This in turn fostered a passion for evidence-based medicine and inspired him to pursue a master’s degree in biostatistics and epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. There he had the honor of being a Zuckerman fellow and participated in a cross-discipline program to understand and begin to solve public health issues affecting the country at large. Dr. Richardson then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona. He then returned to Harvard to complete his foot and ankle fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Richardson is committed to a robust foot and ankle practice that treats people from all walks of life. He understands the implications of treating a high-profile athlete, those with trauma or deformity, and everyone in between. Dr. Richardson lives in Orange County and spends most of his free time with his wife and three kids. In addition to athletic pursuits like riding his mountain bike and yoga, Dr. Richardson is a big fan of classical jazz and enjoys cooking.
