Passion for Her Work Sets Caldwell Podiatrist Sarah Haller Apart

November 18th, 2022 – Dr. Sarah Haller, a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon at Essex Union Podiatry, was recently interviewed for an article published by TAPinto Springfield. She talked about her practice, what inspired her to become a podiatrist, and common foot and ankle problems her patients experience. She specifically highlighted bunions and explained how Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction can help address the pain caused by the condition.

Dr. Haller talked about how her background as a dancer helped lead her into a career in podiatry. Her foot and ankle problems often resulted in trips to the podiatrist. This inspired her to specialize in reconstruction and revisional reconstruction, helping patients that are in need of one or multiple surgical procedures.

Dr. Haller has treated many sports injuries in her 10 years of practice. While ankle sprains, arthritis, and Achilles tendon ruptures have been some of the most burdensome on her patients, one of the most common, painful, and long-lasting conditions she sees are bunions.

“A bunion is a deformity in the big toe; it drifts over to the lesser toes and the joint becomes deviated,” she said. Bunion pain can be severe, often progressing as the patient gets older.1 Dr. Haller also spoke about the importance of increased awareness surrounding bunions, saying, “people actually know what bunions are now.”

The Lapiplasty® Procedure was created as an innovative method of treating bunions, as the procedure addresses all three dimensions of the deformity. Most patients are able to walk in a boot within two weeks after undergoing the procedure.2

“The Lapiplasty® Procedure has changed the face of bunion correction,” Dr. Haller said. “It rotates the bone and pins it into the appropriate position,” she explained.3

“Getting things checked out and getting them checked out early is the best thing you can do for yourself,” Dr. Haller said.

Lapiplasty® is a surgical procedure. Only a surgeon can tell if Lapiplasty® procedure is right for you. As with any surgical treatment, there are risks; individual results may vary; and recovery takes time.  This experience is unique and specific to this patient only.  Potential risks include infection, pain, implant loosening and loss of correction with improper bone healing.
